Simmons dates back to 1838 when Great-Great-Great Aunt Eliza Simmons began making bread in the hamlet of Roe Green just on the outskirts of Hatfield.
More recently, in 1935 Reg Simmons took over from his father and expanded the company, taking it through the war and eventually selling it to Allied Bakeries a few years later. However, after a short period he became impatient working for Allied Bakeries and bought back the Hatfield bakery along with four shops.
There are now 28 Simmons shops based within a 20 mile radius of the bakery in Hatfield.
