£4.5 Million Cardiology Centre Officially Opened At Stevenage's Lister Hospital

Monday, March 26th 2012 06:49

The Lister Hospital in Stevenage has been given the VIP treatment, during the official opening of its new Cardiology Centre...

Hertfordshire resident and TV presenter Pam Rhodes cut the ribbon at the £4.5 million facility on Coreys Mill Lane.

The centre will ensure that more people are treated quickly and in one place.

Nick Carver is the Chief Exec of the East and North Herts NHS Trust: "It's really exciting to see this new unit open. It means that patients will no longer have to travel out of Hertfordshire for their post heart attack care.

They can be brought straight to the Lister hospital and go into this new purpose-built unit."

Nick went on to say: "Pam Rhodes has been a long standing supporter of the Trust and especially the Lister – she was involved deeply in the Lister Hospital Appeal that over many years raised a great deal of money for new medical equipment.

This is why we were delighted that Pam agreed to open the Hertfordshire Cardiology Centre, which has already been proven to provide a truly first class cardiac service to local people.

This important project underlines the Trust's ambition to improve even further specialist inpatient and emergency care for local people.

It is also a great example of the improvements in the quality of treatments that our staff can provide to their patients when such specialist services are brought together on to a single site.

This approach is at the heart of our current programme of hospital changes, which will see some £150 million being invested to make the new Lister hospital the centre for all emergency and inpatient care across east and north Hertfordshire, as well as parts of Bedfordshire, by 2014."

Stevenage MP Stephen McPartland was also at the ceremony: "This unit will be what saves people's lives - this is a fantastic unit, which I have been proud to champion.

Medics have already saved the lives of two people here today (March 23rd)."
