Diabetes Sufferer From Welwyn Garden City Aims To Increase Awareness

Thursday, April 12th 2012 07:58

A charity evening's taking place tonight to raise funds and awareness into type 1 diabetes (April 12th)...

Wine tasting, coffee, talks and music are all on the agenda at St Francis Church Hall in WGC ...

Local diabetic, Julia Hubbard has arranged the event before she attends the Houses of Parliament later this month to join discussions about the condition.

Julia's told Jack FM the message she'd like to take to the Commons: "We hope there's going to be a cure eventually, but in the meantime let's improve awareness and support.

We need to improve access to the new technologies which help diabetes sufferers."

She went on to say: "It can be very difficult for teenagers, in particular, who want to fit in with their friends.

You need people around you who can support the fact you're taking 6 to 8 injections each day."
